摘要

US: The survival of Lafarge North America's Tulsa cement plant may hinge on a 15million US dollars-plus alternative fuel project. High energy costs have forced the 120-employee facility to idle one of its two kilns, which has forced the 48-year-old plant to cut most production aspects by half. However, plant manager Jim Bachmann said that Lafarge has decided, for now, to continue operations without any reductions to its 10million US dollars payroll. But with the national recession slowing construction activity, Mr Bachmann said that the plant's future hinges on achieving the required permits for a different fuel source that promises not only far cheaper costs, but strong environmental benefits.
