Since September 2009 the extrusion business of the Schmidt + Clemens group has been looked after by S + C Extrusion Tooling Solutions GmbH (ETS) with its headquarters in Lindlar, Germany. The new company specialises entirely in the needs of extrusion press suppliers and operators. The focus is on the design and construction of the tools, in particular containers, and on the provision of services such as relining. The previous main activity of melting and forging tool steels is now in the hands of specialist suppliers with whom close collaboration is maintained. ETS executive director Olaf Muller explained in a discussion with this journal: "Naturally we still have comprehensive know-how about materials and are continually developing this further. But with the reorientation we started a few years ago, from a one-time steel supplier to a competent partner for tools and solutions, we have at the same time provided the basis for meeting the needs of our customers flexibly and individually."
