摘要

IN 1986, when Larry Eicher was appointed Secretary-General, the ISO family comprised the national standards institutes of 90 countries. On his death in March 2002, ISO's membership had increased to 140. Many of the new members came from developing countries or economies in transition following the end of the Cold War. At ISO General Assemblies, Larry made it one of his top priorities to welcome the new members of the ISO family. In an interview by the French magazine, The Diplomatic Letter, in 1995, Larry answered the following question on the developing countries.
