According to the Met Office, average temperatures in July ranged from close to normal across southwest England and South Wales to over 1 °C above normal across Scotland, confirming persistent stories from Scottish correspondents about their best summer in living memory. Despite this, however, rainfall was generally 'above or well above' normal across Northern Ireland, England and Wales although close to normal across East Anglia. Rainfall over Scotland ranged from below normal across the north-westto above normal across the southeast. Sunshine was generally close to average across the UK.
