It is well known that aluminium production is very energy-intensive. Subsequent processing into semi-finished products by rolling and thermal treatment also takes a lot of energy that is a correspondingly high cost factor. This applies not only to production in Germany with its high energy prices. There are similar considerations even in regions with relatively cheap energy, where reducing consumption is becoming ever more important for reasons of economy and environment protection. That is where the Energy Advisor, a data management tool developed by SMS Siemag, comes in handy because it tracks and optimises energy flows in the production process to help save costs.
