George F. Dawson's tenure as the editor of the American Journal of Mining {AIM) was short-lived. After overseeing the startup of the AIM in 1866, he faded away after a year or so. Rossiter W. Raymond took over as editor. He was an American mining engineer, author and legal scholar. The newspaper benefitted by association, as Raymond strived to educate the mining industry and improve its reputation.
