摘要

In terms of area and population Indonesia is the largest country in South-East Asia. The archipelago has extensive raw material deposits and correspondingly the economy is dominated by the raw materials sector. The raw materials processing industries are small, and for that reason until a year ago most of the domestic Output was exported. This brings important amounts of foreign exchange into the country. China and Japan are, or have until now been major purchasers of cop-per, nickel and bauxite. However, since the beginning of 2014 the corresponding crude ores may no longer be exported. Accordingly, exports of mined products fell in the first half of 2014 by more than a quarter compared with the previous year. Owing to the export ban on bauxite an impulse has been given to a series of aluminium projects, which are currently being planned or are already in course of implementation.
