Kind Co., Edelstahlwerk, KG in Wiehl-Bielstein (Germany) is recognised in the aluminium extrusion industry worldwide for its qualitatively high-grade forming tools and the tool steels required for them. The company is one of the few all-in-one suppliers - from the primary melting of the steel, all the way to the ready-to-fit billet container and the associated tooling package. Kind Co., as original equipment manufacturer, recently supplied a 3 piece, 66 tonne container for the 150-MN extrusion press, recently delivered by SMS Meer to Shandong Yangkuan Light Alloy Co., in China. "A milestone for us as far as size, technical design and care in the production of this component are concerned", as Werner Hahnel, Head of the Department of Extrusion Tool Sales explained in a talk with this journal. Whereas the first part of this article was about the demands on the hot working tool steel for the container mantle, the second part of the story focuses on the machining of the container.
