The papers in this theme issue derive from a specially convened one-day workshop entitled`Regional competitiveness in the knowledge-based economy: comparative policy perspec-tives' organised and hosted by the Education and Research Group for the Asian Public Administration Hub, Department of Public Administration, Korea University, Seoul,28-29 February 2008. They represent a selection of the presentations from the conference and embody a decent geographical coverage of different national policy settings including the UK, the US, South Korea, Singapore, and China.
