To evaluate the plantar pressure pattern before and after percutaneous distal soft tissue release in patients with mild hallux valgus to determine if the pressure pattern is restored to that of healthy feet Seventy-nine patients (79 feet, 43 right and 36 left) with mild hallux valgus (a hallux abductus angle from 15deg to 30deg and a first intermetatarsal angle of 13deg or less) were recruited. None of the patients had evidence of osteoarthri-tis, all had metatarsus adductus measurements of less than 14deg, and all had pain over the medial eminence while wearing shoes. All 79 patients were female, their mean age was 54.7 +- 12.5 years and their mean weight was 65.9 +- 9.4 kg. A control group consisted of 98 healthy volunteers, their mean age was 52.2 +- 11.8 years and their mean weight was 64.1 +-9.1 kg.
