It remains uncertain what contribution dietary fibre makes to blood pressure control. Although studies have examined the health benefits of fibre, varying study designs and different fibre sources complicate the interpretation of individual studies. This meta-analysis attempted to pool available data to estimate the effect of fibre on blood pressure.Soluble fibre has beneficial effects on blood lipids that may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Evidence about the impacts of fibre on blood pressure reduction is not as strong. Rather than recommending fibre supplements, the American Heart Association advocates including vegetables and fruits, as well as low-fat or fat-free dairy products, in a healthy diet to promote desirable blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This dietary pattern was efficacious in the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) trials.
