摘要

The government and the shale gas industry may yet look back at 2016 as the turning point in their efforts to get shale gas exploration under way. It was certainly the year when the debate ratcheted up a gear. Back in June 2015, Lancashire County Council refused Cuadrilla Resources planning permission to drill at two sites in the Fylde district. The company appealed against the decisions and a planning enquiry was held in February and March 2016. The planning inspector submitted her recommendations in early July to then-communities secretary Greg Clark, who had decided he would make the final judgment.
