The times when at the end of machining the swarf was wetted and taken away in containers are well past. In the next step the question arises what to do with the content of the swarf bunker. That question has been addressed by the company Ruf for 20 years. When for example a circular saw cuts through an aluminium plate 150 mm thick and 3 000 mm long, the cut produces about 10.3 kg of aluminium swarf with a volume of about 30 litres. Every month around 2.5 to 3 tonnes of swarf can be produced - often even much more - and a corresponding multiple of this when several cutting machines are operating. This can occupy a volume well above 20 m~3.
