As China urbanises, its solid waste output has been climbing by 9 percent a year, says Rasmus Reinvag, co-author of a recent China environmental sector report by the WWF conservation group and Norwegian-government owned development group Innovation Norway. Keen to show off environmental credentials in the run up to last year's 'green' Beijing Olympics, city authorities brought in foreign technology to transform the capital's biggest landfill into the Beijing Asuwie Integrated Garbage Treatment Centre, which combines landfill with composting and incineration-to-power generation.
