I have a 1986 Mini and the door hinges on the driver's side door have become very stiff, making it difficult to open and close the door. I have tried putting a drop of oil on the hinge but it has had no effect. How can I get around the problem? Colin McLaughlin Door hinges can become stiff on Minis and it is important to lubricate them frequently. If they are stiff it is best to spray right into the hinges, firstly with copious amounts of WD40, using the plastic tube extension on the WD40 can to really penetrate the gaps in between the two sides of the hinge. Open and close the door to help it work right in. Repeat this if necessary. The door should free up and, when it does, spray some white grease into the hinge. If the hinges will not free off, remove the door and try freeing the hinges when they are more accessible. If this does not work you will need to fit new hinges.
