December industrial production figures for Japanese IP rose by a surprisingly strong 2.1 percent month-on-month. More importantly, however, this translated into a 14.9 percent year-on-year decline. As the largest year ago decline since 1975, MBR expects this signifies the trough of year-on-year falls.
