Thompson et al. (1) present the glacier extent on Kilimanjarofor 2007 and the associated numbers of glacier shrinkage (areaand thickness) along with a discussion of the roles of climatologicaldrivers. Because the authors miss vital details of thephysical processes acting on Kilimanjaro, they inappropriatelypropose that “these shrinking ice fields are not unique” (1). Wethink it is essential to acknowledge these details, because theyprovide an exceptional opportunity to unravel changes of multiscalelinkages in the climate system.
