摘要

The migration of enhancements in NO2 concentration, outgoing longwave radiation(OLR),and radiative effectsassociated with the onset of the North American Monsoonin July 2005 has been investigated using satellite data andthe Regional Chemical Transport Model(REAM). Thesatellite data include the tropospheric NO2 columns, tropospheric O3 profiles, and OLR from OMI,TES andNOAA-16 satellite, respectively, for June and July 2005.The simulated OLR captures the spatial distribution of theremotely sensed OLR fields with relatively small biases(≤5.7) and high spatial correlations(R≥0.88).Thisstudy reveals that the lightning-generated NOx exerts alarger, by up to a factor of three, impact on OLR(up to0.35 Wm-2)and radiative effects(up to 0.55 Wm-2) byenhancing O3 in the upper troposphere than anthropogenicNOx that increases O3 in the lower troposphere, despite thefact that the lightning-generated NOx and O3 are muchsmaller than those from the anthropogenic emissions.Theradiative effect by lightning-derived upper tropospheric 03over the convective outflow regions is affected by thechanges in lightning frequency. Thus the changes inconvection due to global warming may alter thegeographical distribution and magnitude of the radiativeeffect of lightning-derived O3,and this paper is a first stepin quantifying the current radiative impact.
