SummaryThis study is the second phase of an exploration of personality characteristics of graduate students in the Master of Science Program at the University of California School of Nursing, San Francisco. The first investigation reported personality differences among four groups of clinical nursing majors. Differences between graduate students who are preparing as teachers or supervisors in a clinical nursing specialty are the subject of this report. The data from both studies indicate that personality differences do characterize not only the graduate students who elect a specific clinical nursing field but also those who choose teaching versus supervision.Similar data on a larger sample of graduate students in similar Master's programs is needed to confirm or reject the findings of this study. Availability of additional data could provide a basis for comparison, through longitudinal studies, of the actual performance of graduates as teachers or supervisors in a nursing specialty.
