摘要

IMAGINE PICKING UP YOUR FRIEND or coworker in the highway commuter lot and not being able to get back on the road before paying a $200 convenience fee, or maybe pulling off the interstate into a rest area and being charged $400. It's happening today at airports all across the country. It's happening to the student and instructor who pulled up to the FBO to use the restroom only to be socked with an $80 parking fee for 10 minutes. It's happening to pilots who are required to have a customs inspection and are then hit with $400 in FBO fees-and the pilot never left the ramp, didn't buy any fuel, didn't use the FBO facility, and the inspection only took 20 minutes. Pilots being charged three or four hundred dollars to park for an hour, sometimes less than an hour. Pilots being charged $1,200 to drop off a passenger despite only spending 15 minutes on the ramp, or pilots being charged fees that are used to supplement FBO employee salaries-meanwhile these same companies are making multiple millions in profits, and I doubt much of that stays on the airport. These types of egregious fees have been experienced by my colleagues, and I'm sure the same thing has happened to many of you or to someone you know. Judging by the number of calls our Pilot Information Center has received, egregious and non-transparent fees are being charged by FBOs daily. I'm all for free enterprise, but far too often with many FBOs and their fees, the greed has replaced fairness in the economic equation. It's time for some balance to be reinstated and enforced.
