摘要

Pain in the area of the shoulder radiating into the upper extremity is extraordinarily frequent. Mostly, it is difficult to assign the pain to an anatomic structure. The affected patients suffer obviously. Structural disorders of the shoulder need to be excluded. However, they are essentially rarer compared to pain syndromes in this region associated with trigger points. In the following contribution, pain syndromes in manual medical involving the "shoulder region" are introduced: the upper, middle, and lower syndrome of the superior thoracic aperture and the dorsolateral scapular syndrome. Pain is characterized and leading and optional symptoms are presented as well as manual medicine findings. The differential diagnosis with emphasis on orthopedic and neurological illnesses is elaborated extensively. The proposed syndrome simplifies the clinical examination, assists in determining the indication for invasive diagnostic and therapeutic measures, and makes effective therapy planning possible outside an often practiced polypragmasy.
