Sir Michael Nairn, chairman of Rautomead International, based in Dundee, Scotland, has received the H W Bennett President's Trophy for the best technical paper of the year. His paper 'Prevention is Better than Cure, a Graphite-based Technology in Continuous Casting of Re-draw Rod for Multi-wire Drawing Machines' was presented at the IWMA Education Seminar held in Singapore last September (an extract of this paper was published in the July 2002 issue of Metallurgia).The trophy, which was instituted in 1979, has only been awarded on nine other occasions when the Awards Committee considered papers to have been of a sufficiently high standard.
