Alumax Inc., the third largest aluminium producer in the USA, has begun construction of a second automobile components plant using its proprietary semi-solid forging (SSF) technology within weeks of starting production at the first plant. The new factory is being built on a 43 acre site at Bentonville, Arkansas, at a cost of 23.6 million dollars. Work starts on the new plant as Alumax's first purpose-built manufacturing facility using the SSF technology began production at Jackson Tennessee. Development of This plant, with an area of 290 000 ft~2 of manufacturing space on an 82 acre site, began last May and production started this month. It will ultimately employ around 500 people and produce up to 30 million automotive components a year. It confirms Alumax's lead in the development of SSF technology firms use in the production of automotive parts.
