INDIA, already with a presence in the IT sector, is flexing its muscles in aerospace. Rakesh Shah, chairman of the Calcutta-based Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) is confident that India can supply the complex parts needed, to the high quality standards required, and that this is now recognised globally. 'The subcontracting segment for the aerospace industry is thriving because of the large reservoir of highly-qualified technical labour force. India's industrial production rose by 10 percent - and is expected to grow by 12 percent in the future.' He says that the large reservoir of English-speaking and technology-sawy "workers makes India an ideal destination for aerospace outsourcing; and that Chinese suppliers may have communication problems with their Western customers.
