"Brick," "tile" and "suitcase" are terms that will become familiar over the next few years to those trying to keep abreast of radar technology being introduced in the Joint Strike Fighter competition. The technology—used to make light, powerful and flexible radar—is improving so quickly that even before the JSF is fielded, such sensors will be put in the Navy's new F/A-18E Super Hornet, the United Arab Emirates' new Block 60 F-16 and as an upgrade in the Air Force's first-line F-15C interceptor force, according to specialists assembled at Britain's international Farnborough air show.
