We develop the limit relations between the errors of polynomial approxima-tion in weighted metrics and apply them to various problems in approximationtheory such as asymptotically best constants, convergence of polynomials, approxi-mation of individual functions, and multidimensional limit theorems of polynomialapproximation. In addition we establish new inequalities for polynomials in complex domainsand new asymptotics and estimates for orthogonal polynomials with exponentialweights. More detailed information on approximation properties of functions isobtained for the canonical weights W(x) = exp(—|x|~a)0 < a < ∞, and someother weights.
