DOUGLAS STEWART outlines the legal implications of re-shaping dealer operations, from transfer of assets to 'continuity of employment' regulations for those affected by the changes. In these troubled times, motor dealers are no doubt looking at the structure of their business. The resources needed to maintain new and used car sales, compared with repairs and servicing and the sale of spare parts, for example, and the extent to which one part of the business may be subsidising others.
