Nevada metal miners in 1994 enjoyed another record production year. Gold production reached 211.5 t (6.8 million oz) exceeding the 1993 s record of 3.1 t (100,000 oz). Nevada accounted for 60 percent of the gold mined in the United States in 1994 and about 10 percent of world production. Silver production was 790.1 t (22.8 million oz). That was about 12.4 t (400,000 oz) less than 1993 but still enough to maintain Nevada's place as the leading silver-producing state. Nevada also ranked first in US production of mercury and barite and was the only producer of mined magne-site in the United States (Table 1). A large part of the silver production and all mercury production was a byproduct of gold mining. Total nonfuel mineral production in Nevada in 1994 had an estimated value of about 3.06 billion dollars, second only to Arizona. The two largest gold producers in the state in 1994 were Barrick Gold and Newmont Gold. Barrick produced 55.9 t (1.8 million oz) from the Goldstrike mine. Newmont Gold produced 46.6 t (1.5 million oz) from its Carlin Trend properties. Other major gold producers in 1994 included Santa Fe Pacific Gold's Twin Creek mine, which produced 15.6 t (502,000 oz). Smoky Valley Common Operation's Round Mountain mine produced 13.1 t (423,000 oz), while Echo Bay Minerals produced 11.1 t (359,000 oz) from its McCoy/Cove operation. Independence Mining's Jerritt Canyon mine produced 10.1 t (326,000 oz), while Barrick's Bullfrog mine produced 9.3 t (301,000 oz). FirstMiss Gold produced 7.11 (230,000 oz) from its Getchell mine. Santa Fe Pacific Gold's Lone Tree mine produced 7 t (227,000 oz).
