摘要

For any industry, energy consumption is fast becoming a critical index at all stages of the production process. The mining sector uses vast amounts of energy to extract and process raw natural materials. Decreasing energy consumption to increase efficiency, therefore, becomes an attractive opportunity to stay at the leading edge of the industry, both economically and ecologically. As new technologies and automated control systems are developed and perfected, it is imperative for mining companies to be able to calculate the cost/benefit ratio over time of implementing these systems in their operations to lower energy costs. Until now, this could be a fairly complex undertaking because the impact of each energy-saving activity needs to be calculated within the special context of the plant and take into account other concurrent initiatives.
