The Tucson Section of SME awarded at total of $31,250 in scholarships to 20 mining students at the University of Arizona as a result of its annual scholarship fundraiser program. The section raised $52,800 from more than 40 sponsors.Platinum Level sponsors were Newmont Mining, Asarco, BHP Billiton, Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Modular Mining, Rosemont Copper and Skyline Assayers & Laboratories. Each donated $3,000 or more.Gold Level sponsors donated $2,000 each. They include the Florence Copper Project, Liebherr, SRK Consulting and Westland Resources.
