The SME Foundation is dedicated to improving public awareness of the importance of our mineral resources through education. The Mineral Information Institute, a part of the foundation, features a section on its website entitled "Preserving the Environment," which presents many of mining's environmental success stories. More than 300 stories are organized by commodity, and you can view them at www.mii.org/recl.html.This website features examples of companies whose reclamation activities provide exemplary environmental achievement. Three hundred is a good start, but we know there are more and we would like to have 3,000 or more to show that we do make a difference and that we care about the environment.
