At long last, mining is on the rebound in Minnesota's Iron Range and the excitement is starting to show. The SME Minnesota Section's annual meeting was once again held in the heart of Iron Range country, at the Duluth Entertainment and Conference Center on the Duluth waterfront. The conference boasted a record attendance of 475 people and its largest-ever trade show. Appearances by Governor Mark Dayton's new Iron Range Resources & Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) appointee, Tony Sertich, as well as a local Fox news crew (see clip on SME website [link: duluth-mining-conference-breeds-optimism-tech-innovation]) made clear that a lot of eyes are on the industry as it dusts itself off from the 2008-2009 recession.
