Editor:May I suggest that you refrain from applying the word "environmentalist" to people whose sole object is to bring a mining project to a halt (see ME, October 2001, page 9). Calling them that plays right into their hands. I am an environmentalist.I belong to the Audubon Society, contribute to the Mono Lake Committee and have made sizable contributions to The Nature Conservancy. But. at the same time, I defend responsible mining as a necessity to our standard of living.
