PRODUCTION OF pumice in the United States during 2010 was estimated to be 400 kt (441,000 st), a slight decrease compared with 2009 production. The unit value of pumice varied widely by end use in 2010. Pumice used as a lightweight aggregate was priced at 12 dollars/t (10.89 dollars/st) while specialty-grade pumice, used in cosmetics, filtration, or precision grinding, was priced as high as 125 dollars/t (113 dollars/st on a spot basis). Fourteen companies operated 16 mines in Arizona, California, Idaho, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico and Oregon. U.S. pumice exports totaled about 13,0851 (14,424 st). Imports were higher at 35,2011 (38,802 st).
