摘要

Commercial forms of zirconium concentrates include zircon (ZrSiO_4) and baddeleyite (ZrO_2). Zircon is the most important commercially. Nearly all of the world's zircon is produced as a byproduct or coproduct of titanium mineral sands mining. This fact makes zircon production difficult to tailor to market demand. Despite this, supply and demand was almost in balance during 2001. World production of zircon was about 1 Mt/a (1.1 million stpy). Australia is the largest producer. South Africa and the United States are second and third, respectively. South Africa and the US market shares are both expanding at the expense of Australia's. Other producers include India, China, Brazil, Ukraine, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Russia.
