For some time now the membership numbers in SME have been dropping. We have been trying to turn this around for as long as I have been on the board of directors, and we are still trying. One of the main discussions has centered on adding value to SME membership. Believe it or not, the members of the board of directors of SME are not a bunch of hoity toity bigshots that sit around and talk about what style of yacht is best to sail around the horn. As a matter of fact, it is nearly the opposite. You see, to get on the board you have to have donated a lot of your time to SME in the previous years on a national level. Those that donate a lot of time are lumped into a category called do-ers. And hoity toity bigshots more often than not are not do-ers (except, of course, my superiors and everyone I have ever met or will meet that could be considered a bigshot).
