THE U.S. DEPARTMENT of Energy (DOE) has found that, for the United States to lead the way in clean energy technology, it must also ensure reliable access to critical materials. In the recently published report, Critical Minerals Strategy, the DOE found that several clean energy technologies use materials that are at risk of supply disruptions in the short term. The report found that the rare earth metals dypsosium, neodymium, terbium, europium, yttrium and indium are assessed as the most critical in the short term.
