摘要

Fuller's earth occurs in different geological settings located around the United States and the world. Fuller's earths are sedimentary deposits comprised of hydrous magnesium alumino-silicates categorized as palygorskite (attapulgite), sepiolite, or low-density, nonswelling smectite (Ca-Mg-montmorillonite). Often, fuller's earth deposits contain mixtures of two or more clay minerals (Meigs-Ochlocknee, GA). In addition, these clays contain lessor amounts of diatoms, dolomite, calcite, opal CT, quartz, feldspar, mica and zeolite. Bulk composition depends on the clay's individual depositional environment and subsequent diagenetic history.
