The Coal and Energy, Industrial Minerals, Mining and Exploration and Mineral and Metallurgical Processing divisions of SME have announced the deadline for nominations and the requirements for each division's award: J.W. Woomer, Coal and Energy; Young Scientist, Industrial Minerals; Outstanding Young Professional, Mining and Exploration; and Outstanding Young Engineer, Mineral and Metallurgical Processing. The deadline for SME headquarters to receive nominations for all awards is May 15, 2002. The awards will be presented at the 2003 SME Annual Meeting in Cincinnati, OH. The Coal and Energy Division's J.W. Woomer Award recognizes engineering professionalism in a young person working in the coal industry. The award consists of a cash gift of 1,000 dollar and a statuette.
