摘要

A decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to place a hold on mining permits throughout the multi-state Appalachian Region will lead to massive job losses and severely curtail domestic energy production, said the National Mining Association (NMA). The 150 to 200 permits backlogged at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' offices in the region, and all new permit applications, are being put on hold to allow the EPA time to review potential impacts on streams and wetlands, the EPA announced. For many permit applications, this review comes on top of prior EPA examination and sign-off.
