An estimated 453 Mt (500 million st) molybdenum -deposit has been discovered about 460 m (1,500 ft) beneath the pit of the Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah. Kennecott Utah Copper said the deposit might be the largest molybdenum deposit in the world and, while the openpit operations are already at the surface of the deposit, it is believed that the highest-value ore has yet to be reached. "We're still early in the evaluation process. The feasibility of developing a mine to extract (the ore) has not yet been established," Kennecott's spokeswoman Jana Kettering told The Salt Lake Tribune.
