Despite concerns rising from a review of mining contracts from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), American miner Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold said it is still producing at the Tenke Fungurume Mine in DRC. Freeport-McMoRan said it is in discussions with the Kinshasa government over a contract review that has threatened to cancel some mining permits in the central African nation. "We are workirfg cooperatively with the government and are encouraged by comments made by people close to the government on the benefits of the project for the country," Freeport-McMoRan president and chief executive officer Richard Adkerson said.
