From the politics of coal mining to the business of mining coal 2,541 industry professionals converged at the David A. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA for the bi-annual Longwall USA Conference, June 16-18. With five technical sessions and a robust exhibit floor of more than 150 booth spaces sold, the conference was the place to be for those involved in longwall mining, one of the most efficient ways to recover coal from seams buried deep beneath the surface, like many of those in the Eastern United States.
