The Platinum 2008 Interim Review released by Johnson Matthey found that the platinum market is forecast to show a deficit of 7.5 t (240,000 oz) in 2008. The report found that supplies of platinum are expected to fall 4.2 percent to 195 t (6.28 million oz) while demand is set to decrease by 2.3 percent to 203 t (6.52 million oz). Tight fundamentals drove the price to a record 66.38 dollars/g (2,276 dollars/oz) in March, 2008. However, the onset of the global financial crisis led to heavy sales by investors and the price ended September at only 29.28 dollars/g (1,004 dollars/oz).
