In March Northumberland CC noted a revised planning application for the extraction of coal, fireclay and brickshales by opencast methods and auger mining with restoration to a landform park, agriculture, woodland and wetland areas at Shotton, Seaton Burn, by H J Banks & Co Ltd. It was resolved to visit the site and to hold a further public meeting. The previous proposal was reported in Mineral Planning 103 (p.52); this had attracted objections from consultees, and in response to publicity, 542 letters of support and 179 letters of objection together with 2,634 standard letters of objection and petitions in support containing 53 signatures.
