Malcolm Ratcliff of Charis Consultancy Ltd offers an informed but unofficial view of minerals industry concerns about archaeology.As a planning consultant working with archaeological matters I cannot speak directly for the minerals industry, but having worked for a considerable time within it I am aware of its concerns about archaeology. I also want to emphasise at this point that the minerals industry takes the archaeological resource very seriously and neither I, nor any responsible company, would want to be identified with a view that suggested preserving our cultural heritage was not important. That does not mean however, that we think everything in the historic-cultural garden is rosy.
