In October Devon GC considered an Annual Review of the key statistics relating to the delivery of it's planning and highway development management responsibilities during 2006/07. Significant levels of development control casework progressed as well as important milestones being achieved with the Minerals and Waste Development Schemes, and the introduction of Proactive Monitoring of Active Mining and Landfill sites pursuant to new Government Regulations. Casework numbers saw a reduction from the previous year but nevertheless 2006/07 saw the determination and progression of some strategically important waste developments. The Committee continued to support the establishment and running of Local Liaison Groups in respect of many of the County's major minerals and waste management sites; it was noted that whilst these can be resource hungry in terms of member and staff time they were continuing to prove their worth in terms of effective community engagement and understanding of the planning processes at these sites. Active Liaison Groups were in place for minerals sites at Venn Quarry, Landkey, Broadpath Landfill/Hillhead quarry, Uffculme, Westleigh Quarry, Burlescombe, Trusham Quarry, Sands/Babcombe Copse Quarries, Kingsteignton, Bovey Basin Ball Clay (Overall and Sub Groups for Imerys and WBB), Stoneycombe Quarry, and Cornwood China Clay.
