A report on current development control issues at the Cridling Stubbs Quarry and Landfill Complex was considered in March by North Yorkshire CC. and a site visit held. The site is operated by Darrington Quarries Ltd and Waste Recycling Group plc. Members requested the report following receipt of complaints about various activities at the site.Magnesian limestone is currently being worked in two separate areas, Darrington East and Cridling Stubbs South. Working in Darrington East commenced in early 2001 using a hydraulic pecker and hydraulic excavator; stone is transported to the processing plant by lorry along the public highway. Mineral extraction is expected to continue in this area for a further three years. The Cridling Stubbs South site was first permitted by Wakefield MDC and transferred into North Yorkshire following boundary changes in 1993. Mineral extraction in this area commenced in the late 1990s. Permission for restoration of the mineral workings by landfill exists over the large majority of the site. The main mineral processing plant is remote from the current extraction areas.
