摘要

The rising demand for translations over the last few decades has led to the recognition that software tools were urgently needed to help increase translators' productivity, and to support them in their efficient and effective delivery of accurate and consistent translations in ever-shorter time periods (Lang and Bennett, 2000: 203). In order to help inform and guide this software development, a number of researchers discussed the nature of the support required by translators. Kay (1980), of example, proposed the creation of a translator's "amanuensis" to assist with the mechanical tasks translators undertake with a view to increasing their productivity, removing the tedium of the routine, and leaving the creative and rewarding aspects of translation in the hands of the humans. In addition to these discussions, some major studies of translation working practice were undertaken towards the end of the 1980s which served similarly to highlight translators' needs for software support.
