The third quarter of 2010 has seen a surge in reported global oil demand that is unprecedented in recent times. The CGES estimates that worldwide oil demand, measured as deliveries from refineries, soared by more than 3 mbpd year on year in the recently ended quarter, leading to a contra-seasonal 1-mbpd draw in global oil inventories. Although this surge in deliveries from refineries is an indication that the global economy is picking up, the CGES does not believe that there is any reason for it to support a continued surge in oil prices, which are likely to remain stable around their current level in 2011.
